Description Bausch & Lomb optical company microscope used by Rev. Charles Henry Rowley, pastor at the First Parish Church 1880-1890. Hobby. Collected and made slides. Eclectic collection. Lenses from Gundlach Optical Co. Extra lenses and eye pieces. 3 Homogeneous, 1 Gundlach, 3 Bausch & Lomb, 1 1/4" unidentified, plus 4 eyepieces.

Notes This microscope could not see as far as the modern microscopes can. The early designs also broke easily and could not easily be fixed. The parts were also very temperature sensitive. Microscopes were also very unpopular in Westford, and a few people had them at the time of the picture. Above the microscope are two books about how to handle and take care of a microscope.
